Onondaga County MicroGrants – 2024

The following organizations received grant awards in 2024.

  • Amberations
    Art in the Outdoors | $1000
    A 5-week series of art education classes. Children combine engaging in nature with developing their own artwork that is related to that day’s experience. Each week focuses on a different art project designed to help them connect with the outdoors.
  • Black Girls WILL Get Love, Inc.
    The Black Girls Don’t Get Love Film Training Program (2024) | $1000
    An opportunity for girls of color, ages 13-25, to experience a Hollywood-standard film production process right here in Central New York.
  • The Boundless Books Project
    Young Author/Illustrator Workshops | $1000
    Working with Van Duyn Elementary summer school students on a 6-week book writing / publishing program.
  • Brunch N Bible Study
    Self-Care Sunday: Self-Care Basket Giveaway | $1000
    This event serves women aged 18+ in the lower income areas of Syracuse, NY. In addition to giving out the baskets, mental health organizations will be tabling at the event to offer resources and education to the participants.
  • Deviant Dance Tribe
    Thinning of the Veil | $1000
    An immersive art and dance production with a Halloween theme showcasing a unique guided tour where audience members witness dance, performance, and visual art experiences through a “veil.”
  • Great Northern Artist Collaborative
    Sound Equipment Upgrades | $1000
    GNAC will utilize grant funds to purchase 10 factory reconditioned wireless body microphones with omnidirectional lavalier microphones, to support expanded youth and adult musical theater performances.
  • Guitar League of Syracuse
    Monthly Meeting Project 2024-25 | $500
    The project is intended to increase the size and scope of our local chapter of guitar players.
  • Hopeprint Inc | West Pond Alliance
    Lodi Triangle Street Mural | $1000
    The Lodi Triangle will be shut down to car traffic in the summer of 2024 for the installation of a street mural and other placemaking efforts, which will extend for much of the warm-weather months. It seeks to create a place for the community to gather safely, fostering community connection through both shared beautiful space and intentional arts programming opportunities. The mural will be designed and installed by local community members.
  • La Familia de la Salsa
    TIMBALIVE 20 Year Anniversary Concert | $1000
    For La Familia de la Salsa’s 20 anniversary, we are bringing the world-renowned 11-piece Latin orchestra, TIMBALIVE, to perform at our dance venue at the Ukrainian National Home Ballroom, 1317 W Fayette St. Syracuse NY for a concert on June 1, 2024.
  • Local Musicians’ Consortium
    Concert in the Canal Series | $1000
    The fourth annual series of concerts in Erie Canal Park (Jordan) to enrich the community with the sound of music, featuring a community band, blues, jazz, and finale.
  • Near Westside Initiative
    Puerto Rican Festival | $1000
    This year’s theme is the “Fiestas de la Calle”. At this “fiestas” the old city’s plazas and streets are filled with local artists and artisans, showcasing and selling everything from paintings to hand-made jewelry. Our plan is to recreate the streets, buildings and characters of this event at the venue by building walls made of wood and painted by a local artist.
  • NEHDA
    Art in the Garden | $1000
    A series of community art events taking place in The Hawley-Green Cultivating Community Garden.
  • Nezhdanova-Placzek Duo
    Commissioning, Performing, and Publishing Chamber Music Composed by Young Composers from Historically Underrepresented Communities | $1000
    This project will widen the reach of the initial idea by inspiring young composers from underrepresented communities and social groups to submit their compositions, which, when selected, will be performed as a part of the “Reaching Out…” project and commercially published and promoted under the BumbleBebe Notes™ label.
  • Off the Hook Crochet Club
    Home is Where the Art Is: 2024 Summer Exhibition | $1000
    An immersive, traveling exhibition meant to inspire and delight audiences with its creative and versatile use of crochet. By encapsulating a 10×10′ room of everyday objects entirely in crocheted art and creating a space that may initially look overwhelming, OTH invites viewers to reevaluate how they interact with both the fiber arts and their own personal spaces.
  • Open Figure Drawing Inc.
    After 35 Years – A New Home | $1000
    To help OFD facilitate an unexpected move from the Westcott Community Center (after 32 years) to a new studio at the Delevan Center.
  • Otisco Lake Community Association
    Community Center Concert Series | $1000
    The project is a series of three Friday night concerts to be held at the Community Center. We plan to invite Loren and LJ Barrigar on June 14, The Fab Cats on July 12, and Sydney Irving on August 9.
  • Paint and Vibes
    Summer Career and Self Expression Workshop for Kids | $750
    Young people work on art projects and engage in discussions on aspiration and future career choices.
  • Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company
    2024 Jackie Warren-Moore Monologue & Poetry Festival | $1000
    Celebrating the legacy of JWM by bringing impactful neighborhood experiences to life through the presentation of monologues and poetry written by local playwright Anne Margaret Childress, and performed by a diverse ensemble of community artists.
  • Salt City Book Arts
    Print Party 2024 | $1000
    Now in its 4th year, the Print Party is a celebration in Syracuse showcasing and educating on a variety of printmaking and book techniques. On Saturday, September 14th, print aficionados of all ages are invited to participate in demonstrations, shop with vendors and see a wide-ranging exhibition of different printmaking styles.
