100 Black Men of Syracuse in partnership with Syracuse Stage will present a theatre piece titled “Citizen James: The Young Man Without A Country” by Kyle Bass on August 2, 2024 on James Baldwin’s 100th birthday. YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley: A Better Place Project | $7,500
The YMCA is spearheading a new multi-media project entitled “A Better Place” that brings collaborators from across the world together with the goal of promoting inclusion, diversity, cultural understanding, respect, and acceptance through the international language of music, film and books. The song was written by a local YMCA music instructor with contributions from many collaborators and musicians. Educational Bicycle Mural at the Depot | $2,500
The Depot is a community bicycle repair workshop that is open to everyone with tools for use, skill sharing and free spare parts. We will create a mural on the building that represents the parts of a bicycle for knowledge sharing, brightens the exterior, and creates a sense of place and welcoming. ART WITHOUT BOUNDARIES offers the public of Herkimer County and beyond the opportunity to view and appreciate art created by people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are supported by Arc Herkimer. Developed in a traveling exhibit format, ART WITHOUT BOUNDARIES hopes to reach as many people as we did in 2023. Building Company Theater will produce No Exit by Jean Paul Sartre in March 2024. No Exit revolves around three individuals with wildly different backgrounds who find themselves trapped together and are forced to reconcile their respective lives, deeds, and morals. Stories of Hope and Recovery | $4,000
Addiction impacts every community, but especially in rural communities, it can feel very isolating and hopeless for those impacted. This project focuses on Cortland, NY and its neighboring communities, and shares portraits, photographs and stories of those impacted by addiction, recovery and other intersecting challenges such as housing insecurity. Guitars 4 Kids | $1,250
Guitars 4 Kids provides students with access to a free ten week beginning guitar course as well as a free guitar upon completion of the course. In partnership with the Soule Branch Library and the non-profit organization Free Guitars 4 Kids, students will be able to check guitars out like library books. Skate Sculpture on the West Side | $1,500
We propose to build a mixed use skate/sculpture next to Pump Track SYR. This installation is intended to bring more activities to the park and add to the community space that has already been anchored there. We intend to use this installation and location for a skate camp aimed at youth skate programming. 19th Century Canal Era Blacksmithing Forge and Program Expansion | $ 3,000
CLCBM’s Blacksmith shop is a visitor highlight at the CLCBM. This collaborative project with the Mohawk Regional Blacksmith Association allows for an expansion of portable outdoor forges to allow for the development of 19th century canal-era traditional blacksmithing programs. This project will not only breathe new life into the blacksmith forge but also enable the museum to offer a variety of diverse educational programs, hands-on workshops, and classes dedicated to preserving these invaluable traditional arts. - Miroslawa Banach, Onondaga County

The Syracuse Polish Festival is a family-friendly celebration of Polish culture, heritage, and traditions. Festival goal is to provide a variety of entertainment, including the sounds of Polka, Pop/Jazz, Dance-Funk music along with folk dance group “Lechowia” from Canada. During the festival, kids can enjoy a variety interactive games and inflatable activities for them. Our efforts are based on providing a fantastic, fun time for all. Performance Arts at the 2024 Syracuse Crawfish Festival | $2,500
ONC will host the 17th annual Syracuse Crawfish Festival in Clinton Square on May 4, 2024. The festival will feature five local bands on the main stage including local festival favorites Brass Inc., The Ripcords and Unity Street Band. The festival hosts an acoustic performance tent with a SAMMY Award winning performer. New this year, we will have a dance performances by Native American dancers. Black Cinema Project: Community-based Film Production | $3,500
‘Black Cinema Project: Community-based Film Production’ is a pilot program and collaborative film project between the Community Folk Art Center (CFAC), regional artist/filmmaker—Carlton Daniel Jr, and the ‘Black Artist Collective’ (BAC). Carlton Daniel Jr will direct a film (that he wrote) in collaboration with students from his ‘On-Set Film Production’ course at Syracuse University. Numberless Dreams and Young Authors Academy Teen Writing Workshops | $6,500
Offered in partnership with the YMCA of Central New York’s Downtown Writers Center and Syracuse University’s Burton Blatt Institute, Numberless Dreams is a free online creative workshop for teens and young adults with disabilities, led by professional adult writers who are themselves members of the disabled community. Its sister program, the Young Authors Academy, provides in-person creative writing instruction to middle and high school students from Central New York. - Liverpool Public Library, Onondaga County
Liverpool Public Library 2024 Concert Series | $4,000
The Liverpool Public Library, in collaboration with the Liverpool Is The Place Concert Committee, will offer eight live performances with regional artists scheduled January – April, and September – December. Our winter/spring series, Melting Pot, will showcase four incredibly talented diverse musical groups: Old World Jewish dance tunes, Irish jig, Latin/Caribbean. and African rhythms. The intent is to build on our successful 2023 collaboration with the Theatre at Woodshill. Unity Hall will create new partnerships with artists/arts organizations and cross-promote to build capacity and audiences for all. Unity Hall will offer performance space and marketing/front-of-house support for these new alliances while developing new cultural programs for our community. Our music series consists of eight outdoor concerts located on the scenic Oswego River at Lock One, Heney Park, in downtown Phoenix, NY, Monday evenings 6 – 8 PM July and August 2024. This venue is centrally located, easily accessible by everyone. It has a large outdoor pavilion, electricity, grassy area, picnic tables, shade trees, plenty of parking, and is within walking distance for many residents. In 2024, Folkus will present 16 live acoustic music shows, featuring a variety of genres–Americana, folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriter, and more. Oswego Town Historical Society – Dr. Mary Walker Mural in City of Oswego’s Downtown | $4,000
A hand painted mural of Dr. Mary Walker will be placed on the building exterior at the main downtown Oswego crossroads, honoring the Town of Oswego heroine who was a Civil War Surgeon and is, to date, the only female recipient of the Medal of Honor. The mural will be a stop on a driving tour of Dr. Mary Walker sites in the Oswego area and will replace the badly deteriorated one currently there. - Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley, Oneida County

This project will support two artists as they develop and install art in the Village of Cazenovia. Grant funds will cover artist fees and materials for site-specific public art installations. Following the closure of Cazenovia College, there is renewed interest in downtown revitalization and this project will build upon that momentum. Celebrating Diversity Through the Arts in 2024 | $3,000
It is our desire to share with our library community the cultural diversity of CNY and to celebrate the arts through music, theater, and dance. The performances cover a wide variety of the diversity found in the area. The groups include Ukrainian dancers, American folk puppetry, African drumming, and classical clarinet ensembles. Black history is incorporated in a theatrical performance. Patrons can experience Indian dancing and Irish dance. All of these performance are family friendly. - Oneida Public Library, Madison County

This past fall, Oneida Public Library completed construction on its new amphitheater. The SyraQs Micro Film Festival is a novel web micro-film festival that allows community members to creatively explore downtown Syracuse. The festival organizers will make an open call for film submissions that feature a downtown location. Accepted film submissions will be hosted on a website and assigned a QR code that will be displayed in the downtown location that each film references. In celebration of Earth Day 2024, participants will choose a place in Utica, NY to clean up litter. Participants will then create a work of art incorporating trash and found objects exploring the artist’s connection to their chosen place and its unique character. Sculptural railings celebrating 200 years of the Erie Canal | $ 4,250
A collaboration between an artist blacksmith, the Erie Canal Museum, 4th grade Syracuse city school students, and the local community. Using designs inspired by these groups, the artist will forge two sculptural iron railings using traditional blacksmithing techniques used during the building of the Erie Canal. The project is to work with Paul Robeson Performing Arts Company on the 3rd Annual Jackie Warren Moore Festival. I was asked to present Issues of Color, both the monologues and the poetry, as part of the festival. The project is to workshop the play to the community: teach local actors character development, blocking and stage etiquette.
