The following organizations and individuals received CNY Arts GRACE awards in 2025.

  • Dodge-Pratt-Northam & Community Center, Inc., Oneida County
    DPN Connecting Our Youth Through Art and Musical Theater I $4,450
    DPN will host a musical theater workshop for youth ages 7–18 and will produce a major name musical. Youth will be involved in all areas of production with adult staff and volunteers as mentors. Our summer art program for ages 5–15 will tie together the world of visual arts and science fiction. Both programs will fully immerse youth in the creative processes involved.
  • National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum, Madison County
    Lingo Family, Sylvan Beach Singers, and Magical Musical Squad—Singing Freedom I $4,300
    The Lingo Family Singers, the Sylvan Beach Singers, and the Magical Musical Squad will provide programs from June to December 2025 that introduce 19th C. songs which encourage participation in heritage events, assist in raising our collective esteem about our local history as national history, and encourage us to continue vigilance for equity and diversity.
  • Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley, Oneida County
    Kids, Communities, and Classical Music 2025! I $4,275
    The Clinton Symphony Orchestra of the Mohawk Valley (CSOMV) welcomes audiences of all ages and nationalities to experience the beauty and inspiration of live classical music! GRACE funding facilitates quartets, small ensembles, full orchestra performances, and musician visits to senior centers and schools at no cost to students or school districts. The CSOMV aims to bring classical music to life to as many people as possible throughout 2025!
  • Rome Community Theater, Inc., Oneida County
    Children’s Summer Theater Program I $4,250
    The Rome Community Theater Summer Children’s program provides a free opportunity for children ages 4-18 to learn to cooperatively perform in front of a live audience, using creative skills such as stage direction, timing, memorization, blocking and choreography, character development, and stage voice, including singing. Backstage skills such as set, costumes, lights, sounds, and props are also taught. RCT is an inclusive environment, and all children are welcomed and encouraged to audition.
  • Jewish Community Federation of the Mohawk Valley NY, INC., Oneida County
    JEWtica 2025 I $4,250
    Held on Sunday June 8 from 12–4, JEWTica 2025 will be the JCC Utica’s fourth annual free, outdoor celebration of Jewish culture. We welcome people of all faiths and backgrounds to join together for this fun and entertaining community-wide event. We are proud to host an event that provides opportunities for the CNY and Mohawk Valley communities to experience performances by artists from historically excluded communities, especially those marginalized based on religious affiliation.

    The Theater at Woodshill Presents Shakespeare’s Macbeth I $4,250
    The Tragedy of Macbeth remains one of the world’s most alluring and enduring pieces of dramatic theater—and, as Shakespeare’s shortest play, it remains an unrivaled and unflinching exploration of ambition, power, and fate. For The Theater at Woodshill’s ninth season, Macbeth is the “perfectest” choice, a culmination of our previous excursions into Shakespeare’s tragic art, including Hamlet (2019) and Romeo and Juliet (2023).
  • Didymus Thomas Library, Oneida County
    Watercolor Art and Basket Weaving Workshops for Developing Artists I $4,125
    In June and July 2025, the Didymus Thomas Library will host two comprehensive workshops designed for artists to enhance their watercolor techniques and explore the craft of basket weaving. Renowned artists will lead each session, catering to both novice and intermediate participants. The workshops are open to everyone. All necessary materials will be supplied. A student exhibition at the library will take place following the completion of the workshops.
  • Oswego Opera Theater, Inc., Oswego County
    2025 Productions I $4,000
    Oswego Opera will present two productions in 2025: one chamber opera/concert presentation in March 2025 and a full production in November 2025. The chamber production will feature SUNY Oswego students and faculty with piano accompaniment, while the full production will be the local premiere of the Kurt Weill/Ira Gershwin musical LADY IN THE DARK, presented at SUNY Oswego’s Waterman Theatre.

    The Spirit of Harriet Tubman I $3,998
    Leslie McCurdy’s “The Spirit of Harriet Tubman” captivates audiences with a powerful, hour-long performance that vividly brings to life Tubman’s journey from childhood to elder years, evoking deep emotions with its brilliant and inspiring portrayal of her faith, conviction, and enduring legacy.
  • Lime Hollow Nature Center, Inc., Cortland County
    Community Arts in Nature: Accessible Sculpture Walk I $3,950
    The Community Arts in Nature: Accessible Sculpture Walk is a wonderful, FREE opportunity to experience the health benefits of the outdoors while engaging with local art. New sculptures will join refurbished permanent sculptures in the Art Meadow at the Lime Hollow Nature Center for this year-round opportunity. Enjoy this trail year-round, whether meandering through lush green dogwoods in the summer or finding illuminated sculptures in the early dark of winter as snow blankets the ground.

    Keeping the Wheels Turning I $3,600
    Funds obtained through the GRACE program enrich the Pottery Program for individuals served at ARC Herkimer by providing new studio equipment and supplies—such as a wheelchair-accessible pottery wheel and an accessible storage system—specific to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park, Inc., Onondaga County
    Asian Elephant Extravaganza and Penguin Palooza at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo I $3,310
    Asian Elephant Extravaganza celebrates our Asian elephant herd and cultural traditions of their native countries in South Asia through traditional Indian music and dance performances, an Indonesian orchestra, demonstrations with our elephant herd, and birthday celebrations for our eldest elephants. Penguin Palooza is an ice cream party at Penguin Coast featuring Chilean music, complimentary ice cream treats, penguin-themed games/activities, penguin keeper chats, and demos with our colony of Humboldt penguins from the coast of Chile.

    CNY Pride Festival 2025 I $3,310
    The CNY Pride Festival is the largest pride festival within a 75-mile radius of Syracuse. The festival includes a full weekend of activities focused on visibility and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. With a strong commitment to using local talent and local companies, the festival has grown year after year for almost two decades.
  • Oneida Area Civic Chorale, Madison County
    2025 Concert Programs I $3,200
    The OACC will conduct three thematic concerts during the 2025 calendar year: On March 9, 2025 “Around the World In Song” at St. Agatha’s Church in Canastota,, on June 1, 2025 “Let There Be Peace” at Oneida High School and on December 7, 2025 and “A Classical Christmas” at Oneida High School. All concerts are at 4 P.M.
  • Jubilee Homes of Syracuse, Onondaga County
    Showcase Sunday Series 2025 I $3,000
    Showcase Sunday brings together community talent, from renowned bands to emerging youth artists, celebrating diverse culture and history. Over five Sundays, this family-friendly event creates a safe, welcoming environment. Local businesses and agencies join to share products, information, and resources, fostering engagement, education, and support within the community.
  • Salmon River Fine Arts Center, Oswego County
    Drawing the community together I $2,800
    Free weekly drawing classes for all ages, levels and abilities with two ways to participate! An instructor will “zoom” in and guide students as they follow along step by step. Participants may join online in the comfort of their own home or at the art center, where a monitor will bridge those wishing to attend in person. Students will learn and develop drawing skills and be part of a friendly and caring community.
  • Oswego Players, Inc., Oswego County
    Spotlighting Our Brand for New and Returning Patrons & Artistis in 2025 I $2,800
    For its 87th Season, the Oswego Players is looking to enhance brand and promote our season for our existing artists and audiences, while growing our bases in those areas. Part of this grant project will also go to offsetting the royalties and fees of our July 2025 production of “Clue,” which will be a great opportunity to grow our audiences and artists.
  • Blackbird Film Festival, Onondaga County
    Blackbird Film Festival 2025 I $2,767
    The 2025 Blackbird Film Festival will be our 11th annual event and will feature 80–100 independent films made by directors around the world. The festival will include public film screenings, educational “Film Talk” lectures, workshops, panels, as well as an assortment of network building events for filmmakers and community members! The festival will also include other artists such as painters, musicians, writers, and poets. Blackbird 2025 is scheduled for April 24th–27th.
  • Syracuse Community Connections, Onondaga County
    SCC Eye of the Landscaper I $2,700
    Eye of the Landscaper engages up to 50 diverse youth, ages 10–17, in Syracuse through a 10-week program focused on creative arts. The project offers a safe space for self-expression and growth, addressing emotional, psychological, and social challenges through photography, dance, spoken word/ poetry, music and fashion art. By exploring various artistic approaches, participants gain life-changing opportunities beyond traditional counseling methods, fostering development and community connection.

    Family Ceramic Creation for All I $2,700
    Three separate six-week beginner ceramic programs, each consisting of structured sessions, closing ceremony, and open studio time for a total of eight hours each week. Participants will develop ceramic skills, explore their creativity, and build a strong foundation in the art of ceramics.

    Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) Spring 2025 Collaborative Concert I $2,700
    The popular community choir Syracuse Chorale once again teams up with the Onondaga Civic Symphony Orchestra for a Spring 2025 Collaborative Concert featuring a diverse program and many new voices and musicians. Entitled Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace), this year’s concert also features the Ithaca-based Cayuga Community Choir, with one concert given at Most Holy Rosary Church n Syracuse and one concert offered at First Presbyterian in Ithaca.

    Remsen Concert Series 2025 I $2,585
    The Remsen Concert Series presents various live stage performances in the Remsen Arts Center from April through December.
  • Unity Hall, Oneida County
    Creative Synergy: Theatre & Music Project 2025 I $2,550
    In 2025, we will continue our highly successful CommUNITY Hall Collaboration Series with “Creative Synergy: Theatre & Music Project 2025.” This project will feature two unique productions working with local organizations/artists – a theatrical production and a collaborative music performance highlighting some of CNY’s most talented musicians.
  • Historic Old St. John’s Church, Oneida County
    A Community Concert Series in the Heart of Utica I $2,550
    This series, offered to the public for free, will feature a diverse selection of genres and styles including organ, jazz, piano and chamber music. The artists—local, semi-local, and internationally renowned—come from a variety of backgrounds, serving downtown Utica’s diverse population.
  • Central New York Ballet, Onondaga County
    Multi-Lingual Free Community Dance Project I $2,500
    The CNYB Multi-Lingual Free Community Dance Project will offer four 20-minute classical ballet free public performances designed for children and families. Each performance will be narrated in a different language (think Peter and the Wolf). Two performances will be offered in English, one in Spanish, and one in another language. We will also have a sign language interpreter during all four shows for hearing-impaired patrons to enjoy the narration.

    Westcott Street Cultural Fair I $2,500
    The Westcott Street Cultural Fair is a one-day festival celebrating the diversity of our neighborhood through music, dance, and art.
  • Operation Northern Comfort, Inc., Onondaga County
    Performance Arts at the 2025 Syracuse Crawfish Festival I $2,500
    ONC will host the 18th annual Syracuse Crawfish Festival in Clinton Square on May 3, 2025. The festival will feature five local bands on the main stage, including The Barndogs, Brass Inc, The Ripcords, C’est Bon and The Unity Street Band. The festival features an acoustic performance tent and dance performances by different cultural dance troupes.

    Liverpool is the Place Concert Series I $2,250
    LITP is a sub-committee of the Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce that presents 23 concerts from June – August in Liverpool.
  • Aaron Z. Lee (in partnership with Oswego Public Library), Oswego County
    Aaron Z. Lee—Summer Sequential Art Comics Workshop (SSACW) I $2,200
    The Sequential Arts Comics Workshop is a three-session summer workshop where students will learn the history of graphic novels and comics. Students will then create their own visual stories, featuring original characters that they will design. The completed stories will be scanned and formatted for publishing in an anthology comic book that will be made available for free at the Oswego Public Library.

  • Jewish Federation of Central New York, Onondaga County
    Syracuse Jewish Federation of CNY—Music of the Jewish Experience I $2,000 Three outstanding musicians will present a program which will not only appeal to the Jewish community, but also to our local Ukrainian and Israeli communities. Jewish music is diverse, influenced by the regions in which Jews have lived. From the Sephardic traditions of Spain and North Africa to Ashkenazi klezmer music in Eastern Europe, each tradition reflects the interactions between Jewish communities and their surroundings. Jewish composers, performers and traditions have influenced global music.

    Live Music at the Little Falls Cheese Festival I $1,842
    Free, live musical entertainment throughout the day of the Little Falls Cheese Festival featuring 20+ independent regional musical groups. Juried acts include soloists, duos and larger groups; acoustic and amplified; bluegrass, Americana, Cajun, jazz, and folk. NEW for 2025: A SECONDLINE PARADE featuring New Orleans style jazz to celebrate our 10th annual festival.

    Hopeprint | West Pond Alliance – The Northside Cultural Heritage District Project I $1,700
    The Northside Cultural Heritage District seeks to foster the expression and celebration of the multitude of cultures that call the Northside neighborhood home. This project will develop community-driven arts and culture programming and installations throughout the neighborhood as part of the activation of a 35-block microneighborhood area as a cultural heritage district with walking/biking trails, pocket art parks, and more.

    We plan 5 group exhibits with receptions in conjunction with 5 lectures with 5 hands-on workshops plus 2 show catalogs. Promoting making Art from ideas, to paper, to wall. We are planning 5 Group Exhibits at our studio at the Delavan in a dedicated space. GROUP SHOWS have been an important part of our mission since 1991, as we have held over 40 exhibitions.

    Fayetteville Free Library—Expanding Horizons: Broadening and Enhancing our Multicultural Music and Performance Series I $1,700
    Our desire is to enrich the lives of our community by providing access to performances that reflect their diverse backgrounds and expand their knowledge about the diversity that surrounds them. We plan to host Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Irish, and Native American dancers, American folk puppetry, and music from a variety of cultural traditions. The project will expand upon the success of previous years with improved accessibility, increased awareness and participation, and increased diversity of performances.

  • Syracuse Community Choir, Inc., Onondaga County
    Syracuse Community Choir – 40th Anniversary Concerts: “All My Relations” and “Homecoming” I $1,500
    In 2025 we’re celebrating a milestone anniversary with songs, philosophies, and connections spanning the last 40 years. Our Summer Solstice Concert at the Onondaga Nation will honor the Haudenosaunee creation story. Our Winter Solstice Concert, planned alongside members of Bethany Baptist Church, will recognize our community ties and choir history.

    Village of Liverpool—Community Willow Basketry Workshop I $1,478
    The “Community Willow Basketry Workshop” project will provide a 3-day sequential free community workshop in the making of a traditional Liverpool willow basket in August 2025 in Liverpool, New York, taught by Willow Artist, Bonnie Gale. The workshop will be held at the Village Hall. The workshop will be open to youth and adults in the region. There will also be a lecture/presentation open to the public.

    Gratitude…A Community’s Poetry & Art Extravaganza I $1,350
    The annual Old Forge Library’s Poetry & Art Extravaganza is open to residents of Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties and the Town of Inlet. We create a local opportunity to make, exhibit, perform, view and celebrate work representative of this year’s theme, “Gratitude.” We host a day of creative workshops, “Creator Day.” All submitted works are displayed for two months in the Library’s Judith Cohen Memorial Gallery. Written works are performed at the award reception.
  • LA Joven Guardia Del Teatro Y La Danza Latina, Inc., Onondaga County
    La Joven Guardia del Teatro, Inc.—Extravaganza—Diseños de Vestuarios: Unique Projects for Youth and Children I $1250
    In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we will present our annual theater event for La Joven Guardia troupe’s children and the broader community members of CNY. We proudly continue our mission with Spanish Classical theatre to promote cultural diversity and inclusion through the Arts. Throughout the period of this project, we will teach the troupe’s kids and parents the Art of Costume Design, through a process that will involve investigations and research with period outfits.

    Rematriation—Haudenosaunee & Indigenous Matrilineality Symposium I $1,000
    Rematriation in partnership with Syracuse Stage will present a staged reading of Ty Defoe’s play, “Our Words Are Seeds” which centers a two-spirit Oneida and Onondaga teenager through the lens of their great grandmother’s story about land. Discussion on the journey into cultural accountability, community building and the creation of a new play that acknowledges future generations.

    SNCC Kitchen Literacy Chef Demonstrations I $1,000
    To support individuals and families in moving from emergency to self-reliance, Kitchen Literacy hosts a professional chef’s onsite cooking demonstration. The chef, working with the contents of the fresh produce boxes being distributed, creates a healthy meal. Participants receive the customized recipe to replicate at home with their families.

    Westcott Words and Music I $1,000
    The Westcott Neighborhood Association (WNA) presents a year-long series of performances by local writers and musicians in local venues. Westcott Words and Music includes poetry readings and musical performances at local eateries, a musical memorial event at the local library, a music-filled neighborhood Halloween dog parade, and Westcott Winter Weekend, a fun-filled music series on Thanksgiving Weekend.

    Building Company Theater—Y2k I $1,000
    This original production is an exploration on the ever-changing identity of the apocalypse and the spread of conspiracy through the American lens. Centering on the Y2K panic through to its new millennium successors, how does the evolution of media shape the end of the world and the conspiracies we hold near and dear?

    Syracuse Polish Festival I $1,000
    The Syracuse Polish Festival is a family-friendly celebration of Polish culture, heritage, and traditions. Festival goal is to provide a variety of entertainment, including the sounds of Polka, Pop/Jazz, Dance-Funk music along with folk dance group “Lechowia” from Canada. During the festival, kids can enjoy a variety interactive games and inflatable activities for them. Our efforts are based on providing a fantastic, fun time for all. We keep the whole family busy.

    Syracuse Public Arts—Cultivating Community: Syracuse Voices I $1,000
    Cultivating Community: Syracuse Voices brings art, environment, young people, and neighbors together in public parks to learn from each other and from the earth. Resident Artist Laura Reeder will collaborate weekly with adults and youth to develop seasonal “cultivator” projects that explore ecosystems, conversations, and reflections on life in and around Syracuse public parks.

    Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum—Old Erie Canal Float n’ Folk Artisan Festival I $1,000
    The Festival will celebrate the history along the Canal by featuring artisans who specialize in traditional trades. Artisans will set up to showcase their craft through live demonstrations. These interactive sessions will not only display the skill and artistry but also educate about the artisan businesses that flourished along the Canal in its heyday. This unique event provides hands-on opportunity to connect with the past and experience the vibrant artisanal culture that defined the region.

    Technology Alliance of Central New York—Maker Faire Syracuse I $1,000
    Maker Faire Syracuse is an event that features local “makers.” It is a family-friendly celebration featuring all kinds of making and creating from traditional arts & crafts to high tech creations. Our Faire is the largest STEAM event in Central New York. This will be our fourth annual event.

    Festival of Music Summer Series 2025 I $1,000
    2025 Summer Series Concerts July 15, July 22, July 29. Music of African American Women Composers, A Gospel Retrospective and Exhibition, Latinx artists and Art Songs of African American composers, Young Artists Concert (high school and college students from Syracuse). All performances on Tuesday evenings in Historic Tucker Baptist Church on the south side of Syracuse. Concert are free.
  • Syracuse Chamber Orchestra, Onondaga County
    Syracuse Chamber Orchestra 2025 Concert Season I $1000
    This project, Syracuse Chamber Orchestra 2025 Concert Season, is a series of two classical music concerts: one performed in the Fall (October 20, 2024) and the second performed in the Spring (May 10, 2025). These concerts include several styles of music from the Baroque Era to 20th-Century music and include international composers and composers of diversity (i.e. Chevalier de Saint George – black composer, Willian Grant Still, Black-American composer, Florence Price, Black-American female composer.).

    WCNY’s “Pulso Central,” Central New York’s first Spanish radio station I $1000
    Pulso Central, the region’s first Spanish radio station, celebrates the arts, culture and music of our diverse Hispanic and Latino communities.

    Building Bridges of Understanding 2025 I $950
    Building Bridges of Understanding is a unique Central New York event that celebrates the rich diversity of our community. It encompasses both the Racial Justice Awards and Saturday’s community festival, recognizing individuals and organizations for their work toward racial justice and celebrating the community that supports this work. The community festival is a family-friendly atmosphere that includes a performance stage presenting diverse entertainment, face-painting, family crafts, STEM activities, free ice-cream, food trucks, and youth-engagement booths.
  • The Folkus Project Incorporated, Onondaga County
    The Folkus Project—2025 Season I $950
    In 2025, Folkus will present 16 live acoustic music shows, featuring a variety of genres—Americana, folk, bluegrass, singer-songwriter, and more. Folkus provides the audience the opportunity to hear high-quality music and discover new artists. Folkus also cultivates a sense of community around the experience that live music creates.

    Funds from the GRACE grant will permit us to use our wrap-around porch (built in 2022) and our new barn for summer arts and crafts, as well as being used for our Little Library of books, games, and puzzles for youth.

    Syracuse Shakespeare in the Park’s production of “Twelfth Night” I $950
    SSITP is presenting six (6) performances of “Twelfth Night” from August 1 – August 10. All performances will be in the Thornden Park Amphitheater. All performances are FREE and open to the public.

    Jewish Community Center of Syracuse—Klezfest 2025 I $950
    KlezFest is a celebration of Jewish culture in Central New York. Once a year, the lawn of the JCC becomes the site of festive music, delicious food, and Jewish spirit. This festival is not only for the Jewish Community, but for all of Central New York.

    Madison Hall Association Inc.—Country Crossroads of Artistic Talents I $901
    Madison Hall in Morrisville, NY presents a four-part Sunday afternoon series highlighting artistic talents found in Madison County. On display May 4th art works by local artist and photographers June 8th features music and dance performances from local groups and individuals. September 7th focuses on the home arts. On October 5th presentations by local authors will be offered.

    Upstate Caring Partners(UCP) offers Pieces of heART (adaptive art) to adults of all abilities. Instructors use adaptive tools and techniques (i.e. brushes, easels, pottery wheel) to give artists full control over their creations and help the people we serve find meaningful expression. In 2025 Pieces of heART will emphasize works that are also functional. This project reinforces that art serves multiple purposes: a means of self-expression; beautifying the world; and in daily use.

    We have planned a free concert series for the 2025 season featuring live music every week of the market, which has more than 40 vendors. From June until the end of September our concert series will feature local musicians with a wide array of musical styles and talent.

    Town of Schroeppel Music in the Park Concert Series 2025 I $750
    Our music series consists of eight outdoor concerts located on the scenic Oswego River at Lock One, Henley Park, in downtown Phoenix, NY, Monday evenings 6-8 pm July and August 2025. This venue is centrally located and easily accessible. It has a large outdoor pavilion, electricity, grassy area, picnic tables, shade trees, plenty of parking, and is within walking distance for many residents. Local businesses and nonprofit organizations provide concessions.
  • Cincinnatus Area Heritage Society, Cortland County
    Cincinnatus Area Heritage Society—Above and Below Ground: Railroads Come to Cincinnatus, New York in the 19th and 20th Centuries I $750
    Cincinnatus Central School students (at five different grade levels) will explore the local history surrounding the Underground Railroad movement within the community (beginning in 1850) and the later evolution of the town’s public and freight railway system (1870–1961). Students’ responses to the history (original music, dance, and art work; storytelling and written expression) will be shared in a public performance at Heritage Hall, with a follow-up improv/interpretive dance workshop for both students and community members.

    Taylor Historical Society—Oral History and Living History Speakers I $550
    Our oral history project is an ongoing effort to record the recollections of aging local residents. Video recordings of interviews are edited and transferred to DVDs for archiving and distribution. In addition, throughout the summer and fall, several knowledgeable speakers will share a range of program topics of historical interest.

    Alchemical Nursery Project—Garden Art Plant Signs for Public and Community Green Spaces I $500
    The Garden Art Signs project works with local artists and community members to create painted representations of plants grown in the Alchemical Nursery Project’s publicly stewarded greenspaces. These signs are “planted” on the sites to identify the plants, and to provide a pop of color and art for space users, and for general placemaking. Each sign is unique to the artist or resident who paints it showcasing a wide range of styles and skills!

    Strawberry Cushion Significance I $500
    This Strawberry Cushion beading class is a continuation of a 2023 hands-on demonstration that allows participants to explore the traditions of the Haudenosaunee Nation while benefitting from the Artist’s beading expertise. Beading has lost meaning connected to the Great Thanksgiving. This project connects local artists and novice ones to unpack the meaning of the fabric, beads and belt making in history, culture and storytelling.

    The Covey Theater Company—Summer Musical 2025 I $500
    The Covey Theater Company will continue it’s very popular tradition of presenting a summer musical in The Oncenter’s Bevard Studio in July and August of 2025.     Teens with a Movie Camera 3.0 Spring 2025 I $3,500
    This 8-week-long hands-on collaborative media workshop, led by CNY media artists Mišo Suchý, Lida Suchy, Evan Bode & Tevvon Hines, working with 15 high school teens from the City of Syracuse, is focused on visual and cinematic storytelling and will culminate with the creation of original short films and their public presentation in the community in which the work was created. The project is specifically designed for City of Syracuse teens.

    Dance Connect at Mount Markham Central School District I $3,450
    Dance Connect at Mount Markham is a free outreach dance program running for 20 weeks in two 10-week sessions. From January to April 2025, 2nd grade students will attend weekly 45-minute classes with Teaching Artist Fallon Gannon. From April to June 2025, 5th grade students will participate in similar classes. The program fosters a supportive environment for self-expression, creativity, and confidence, culminating in a performance for the school community.

    Brewer Harris Projects—Bringing Ace Lehner’s “Barbershop: The Art of Queer Failure” to Syracuse I $3,400
    Brewer Harris Projects brings Ace Lehner’s social practice performance “Barbershop: The Art of Queer Failure” to Syracuse for an exhibition from June 6 through July 27. For this exhibition and series of performances, Lehner transforms the gallery into a barbershop and performs as the barber. Visitors can opt to get their hair cut by Lehner in the style of numerous queer icons, such as RuPaul, Andy Warhol, Alok, Travis Alabanza, Peaches and K.D Lang.

We serve low-income individuals, senior citizens, and disabled persons who have a passion for art. As a vital part of the community, we promote healthy social support group projects.

    Creative Expression Projects will be led by creative writing facilitator Kofi Antwi. The project will provide a safe space for young artists to create art practices and express their emotions about the process of working in groups to complete a common goal (art portfolio) with fellow participants at Community Folk Art Center. Projects will range from visual imagery to formatted poems. The seasonal project will host a gallery exhibit to commence the finalized artistic portfolios.

    Dance is not only a medium of soulful artistic exploration, but also a powerful instrument to build and engage community in activities with a shared purpose. Indian dances share their history, evolution and culture underpinnings with the Afghan people. Hence, the classes offered to the Afghan refugees will bring them together in a welcoming setting as well as help them seek new community connections through the universal language of rhythm and movements.

    Upstate Art Collective’s 2025 Pop-Up Exhibition I $2,155
    In conjunction with the Upstate Art Collective’s 2025 Pop-Up exhibition and the KAC, artist Marc-Anthony Polizzi will create a new site-specific installation using discarded objects. This work explores deconstruction and unification, aiming to balance the chaos of consumerism and material culture. Engaging the local community, the project invites contributions of materials and participation in public events, including artist talks and walkthroughs. The installation fosters dialogue on material reuse and consumerism’s impact, while creating a visually compelling environment.

    The Hamilton Village Quartet is an all-woman string quartet that performs classical and 21st-century music, and Argentine tango focussing on compositions by living and women composers as well as traditional repertoire. Located in the village of Hamilton, we will give the community access to music they would normally not be able to experience locally. This project comprises 3 concerts: two emphasizing classical music, and one focused on Argentine tango featuring guest bandoneon player Heyni Solera.

    The Upstate Art Collective (UAC) will allocate grant funds primarily for artist stipends, with the rest covering exhibition supplies and space rental. The grant will support the third annual contemporary art pop-up exhibition (October 2025), aiming to create inclusive opportunities for underrepresented artists. UAC will stream receptions, host virtual walk-throughs, and actively share content across social media, ensuring transparency and engagement. The event will provide guidance to both artists and viewers, enriching their experience.

    Gentile’s Mythology is a full-length animated feature, a series of independent but interrelated vignettes made in collaboration with a wide variety of local creatives, animators, actors, painters, poets, musicians, craftspeople, and other artistic practitioners. The title is derived from Bulfinch’s Mythology—as this absurdist comic romp is a compendium of the myths, stories, tales, and fables that a group of artists must tell themselves in order to find the strength to finish their masterpiece.

Participants will also craft their own pinch pots and receive a violet from Lyndon Lyon Greenhouse to take home, making the event both creative and memorable.

    Three songs representing diverse perspectives, written by Michael Messina-Yauchzy and collaborators, will be performed at the Erie Canal Museum as part of their Canal Bicentennial on October 8, 2024. The center piece, “The Day We Filled the Erie Canal (Erie Canal Blues),” follows work of Chief Jake Edwards of the Onondaga Nation and others, presenting the canal from indigenous and environmental perspectives, and is performed by Colin Aberdeen. Each kit includes a return envelope for participants to share their work for inclusion with others’ in collaborative artworks that I will combine and finish.

    A Bells & Motley Wassailing Concert at Baltimore Woods I $600
    Wassailing is a longstanding Mid-Winter custom of singing carols communally. These songs traditionally shared an important theme: to bid good health to neighbors, friends, “kin and kinsfolk,” and to their cows, horses, dogs, and apple trees. “WASSAIL!”—the toast to all who join together in singing—comes from the old Anglo-Saxon salutation “Wes thu Hael,” meaning “Be thou Hail, Be thou Healthy.” Let us sing together for a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year!

Raúl, his family, and newfound friends must stand together when he is falsely accused by a rival chef who abuses opioids. Raúl’s Place reveals the struggles of refugees and celebrates their successes; it takes on drug addiction and its devastating effects on individuals and families.

    The Unexpected Exhibit I $500
    The Unexpected Exhibition is a collection of roughly two dozen images that have been made in the second half of 2024. These bright, colorful designs are surefire smile makers. Mark is a nonspeaking individual with autism, yet this work says volumes about the joy he feels when creating them. This is art that anyone can appreciate and is fun for all.

    New Photographic Artwork I $450
    “Repeating Reality: Digitally Manipulated Photographs and Collages” combines my love of photography, collage, pattern, and object making. My aim is to marry image and form while straddling the divide between abstraction and representation. Ultimately, my digitally manipulated photo “Repeats” encourage viewers to see larger patterns from a distance and upon closer inspection, discover the objects and landscapes that are hidden in plain sight.

    Roundtrip Stuckism London I $425
    During winter 2025, Ron Throop will paint and make art in Oswego live via Instagram with Edgeworth Johnstone in London, UK. In April, Ron will travel to London to photograph, create video, and participate in live demos at London art institutions with the Black Ivory Printmaking and Audio Club. He will collect Edgeworth paintings and return to Oswego, exhibiting their work and screening a movie made between them at the Art Association of Oswego.
